I was pouring salad dressing on my salad the other day and I looked down and noticed that the Italian salad dressing I was using was not fat free like I thought it was…it had SEVEN grams of fat! Here I was having a salad with vegetables, grilled chicken, and shredded cheese thinking the cheese was the most fattening part of my salad but it turned out it was my salad dressing! It made me wonder how many hidden calories I had been consuming without even realizing it. I will definitely be checking food labels from now on. I tend to just assume something is low fat/low calorie but I need to make sure it is.
Other than that I did pretty good with eating this week. I attended a wedding where our meals were picked out for us so I had some pasta but tried to fill up on the “healthier” parts of the meal like the salad. And I skipped dessert which looked absolutely delicious. It was a pastry filled with ice cream and covered with chocolate. I also went out to eat one night with my family but the choices were only hot dogs and burgers so I chose to get nothing and eat a salad when I went home. I also bought my boys ice cream and didn’t get one for myself. I have been finding that it’s become much easier to say no to dessert, something I could never really do before.
Exercise wise I didn’t make it out to walk as much as I’d hope to with the kids. I have been using the Wii that I won from the conference to exercise with the Fit In Six game that I also got there. I like the game but it’s shorter workouts so I have to do multiple of them. I’ve been doing toning, cardio, and dance workouts. The weight loss is very slow for me and I think a lot has to do with the fact that I spend a lot of time at my desk working so along with what I’m already doing I hope to find some exercises that I can do while sitting down.
This week I gained .2 pounds and now weigh 186.8. I am down 4.8 pounds since starting this challenge. My BMI is still 30.1.
(Disclosure: I am part of the George Foreman Knock Out The Fat Weight Loss Challenge. I am being compensated for participating in this 90-day challenge but all thoughts are my own.)
I read that it’s best to dip your fork in the salad dressing to consume less cals. It’s amazing how much like things like condiments and cheese can add to the cals. Happy Independence Day!
Those small things do add up – the good and the bad. I think you’re doing great because you realize the changes that you’ve made already! Yes, it’s hard to say no to delicious looking desserts. But I always remind myself that a short term sacrifice is worth the long term gain!
Check out sparkpeople.com – they have lots of great videos for short workouts that you can do in the office.
I second using a fork to dip into the salad dressing. It still adds plenty of flavor:) Great job on keeping motivated and moving:)
I’m always surprised how little things add up to big – often unnoticed – calories. The best part – You are AWARE of it! and that’s AWESOME!
As for work and exercise – a couple things I use at work – (1) a Balance Ball Chair – works your core while you are at your desk and (2) I have resistance bands I keep in my desk so I can pull those out and get a pick me up workout mid afternoon.
Also, check out YouTube – Leslie Sansone has some AWESOME 2 minute walking work outs that fit into your day nicely :) Hope that helps
