Temporal Artery Thermometer Review & Giveaway

Lucas at the Doctor today. He has the flu :(

Lucas woke up today fussy, coughing, and warm to the touch. After we got him something to drink I went to take his temperature. This is something that I normally dread doing because he hates sitting there while I hold a little thermometer under his arm. It just makes him even more miserable than he is already feeling.

Luckily I had a new thermometer to test out. The Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer is perfect for kids like Lucas because it only takes a few seconds to get an accurate temperature. I don’t have to lift up his shirt to stick something under his arm with this one which he really liked. This thermometer also makes taking temperatures of sleeping children easy!

The biggest plus for me as a mom was that it took the temperature in just three easy steps. All I had to do was press and hold a button while I moved the thermometer across his forehead. When I got to the end I just released the button and then I could read the temperature in the display window. I liked that the thermometer even beeped to let me know I was using it correctly.

When it comes to accuracy, I felt this thermometer was pretty right on the temperature. I also took it multiple times in a row to see if the temperature would change (like my old thermometer did) but the numbers were pretty consistent. The reading was a degree higher than what it was at the Doctor but he had medicine before we left so I think that was why. Reading more about the thermometer I saw that this thermometer was so accurate because it took 1,000 readings per second.

  2. I like that you dont have to wake them to use and it lets you know if you are doing it correctly

  3. I love that is stays sterile by not entering the mouth or the bahooney. :) This is great because it limits germ spreading, but also is much more amenable to the LOs.

  4. favorite feature of this thermometer is it only takes a few seconds to get an accurate temperature!

  5. i love that this thermometer is so fast! i always kind of dread having to take my baby girls temp because it’s not fun for anybody, but with this it would be so easy.love it!

  6. I like the fact that you don’t have to shove it in their ear. That can be painful if they have an ear infection, which my daughter seems to get regularly.

  7. I need this thermometer! my son does not stay still long enough for me to take his temperature under his armpit. I love that this is quick and can be done without having to hold it.

  8. My favorite feature is taking the reading on the forehead since our current thermometer goes in the ear, and my kids don’t like that.

  9. I like that I don’t have to hold it in the right place in their mouth or on their temple. With a squirming kid, that’s pretty important!

  10. The feature I like best is that it lets you know you’re using it correctly. We have an ear thermometer and more than half the time I don’t know if its in correctly.

  11. i love that you dont have to wrestle it into a cranky toddler ear or arm pit, seems way easier to use when you have sick crabby kid on your hands!

  12. I like that I don’t have to try and stick a thermometer in my little ones ears when they are sick and crying and not feeling well, much easier!

  13. My favorite feature, it’s quick and easy…..it’s great for adults also, this is the thermometer they use at my husbands dr and he loves the thermometer and has told me multiple times he would like to have one. So, I would love to win this giveaway. Thank you

  14. Commented on the chicken soup for the soul book post. I absolutely love these books, especially the pet ones. Although it doesn’t count towards the giveaway i also am following your blog by email. Thank you.

  15. I like that it lets you know if you’re doing it right, and that you don’t have to try to shove it in an ear, mouth, under an arm or…well, you know the other place for babies.

  16. I LOVE how quick it is and the accuracy. LIke you said when I use the one I have that I stick in their ear it changes every time I use it plus who wants something stuck in the ear especially it they have an ear ache.

  17. I like that ” it captures the naturally emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 1,000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate”
