With Valentine’s Day just a little over a month away I thought it would be a great time to share some books about love that are perfect for young children. Here are some books little kids will enjoy reading again and again. Most are specifically for Valentine’s Day but some are just about love in general.

Little Blue Truck’s Valentine

This is one of the newest books in the beloved Little Blue Truck series. Children will join Little Blue Truck as he delivers Valentine’s Day cards to all his farm animal friends. But as Blue beeps along, he starts to wonder: will he get any cards of his own? This book would make a sweet Valentine’s Day gift for any child who loves this best-selling series!

Llama Llama I Love You

In Llama Llama I Love You, little llama shows his friends and family how much he loves them with heart-shaped cards and lots of hugs. What could be sweeter than Llama Llama on Valentine’s Day? Llama Llama is one of my favorite board book series. I love that it uses short and simple rhyming text to introduce babies and toddlers to their characters before they’re ready for longer full-length stories. And their small size and durable pages are perfect for little hands.

The Invisible String

If you have a child struggling with separation anxiety, loss, or grief, The Invisible String would make a thoughtful Valentine’s Day gift. This heartwarming picture book for all ages explores questions about the intangible yet unbreakable connections between us, and opens up deeper conversations about love. It offers a very simple approach to overcoming loneliness, separation, or loss with an imaginative twist that children easily understand and embrace, and delivers a particularly compelling message in today’s uncertain times. Though not a traditional Valentine’s Day book, with all that’s going on I feel it’s appropriate for this list as a book that talks about love in a compassionate way for those struggling.
