Creating A Gift Basket For A Sick Friend

Being sick is difficult for anyone, but it is especially difficult for moms who have households to run and little people to take care of. I’m currently sick with bronchitis so I thought this would be the perfect time to share about things we can do for our friends when they are sick. Personally, I’m lucky to have such sweet friends, who have been checking on me, praying for me to feel better and have dropped off food to my family. These friends have been such a huge blessing to me and have inspired me to think about ways I can give back to my friends when they are sick.

Along with bringing food and offering a listening ear, a couple other ideas that might help a friend out when they are sick would be offering to watch their children or offering to help with any errands or work they might need assistance with. Another way to let a friend know you care about them is by creating a gift basket to cheer them up and help them feel better. I thought about what things might be good to include and wanted to share what I came up with.

Things to make them feel pretty– I love this “hello gorgeous” sign (pictured above). Sometimes when we are sick the last thing we feel is gorgeous so this sign is a great reminder for us. You could also include a little tube of lip gloss because we all know that a little swipe of pink lip gloss adds a bit of a pretty glow to a tired face!

Something warm to drink– Coffee or hot cocoa in a pretty mug can soothe a sore throat and the mug is a nice reminder of friendship that will put a smile on your friend’s face every time she drinks out of it.

Snack– I filled a little bag with sweets because everyone could use a bit of chocolate when they are sick. (I may or may not have picked up a candy bar while I was picking up my medications at the pharmacy last night…..) Find out your friend’s favorite snack and add it to your gift basket for her.

Relaxation essentials– When moms are sick the most important thing they can do is get some rest. Help them relax with a soothing candle they can light while they take a bubble bath or watch a favorite movie. A cute notebook they can write or draw in would be nice as well.

Flowers– It’s hard to keep the house tidy when we are sick isn’t it? Bring your friend some pretty flowers to help brighten up their home and help them forget the mess for a bit.

Kleenex – Most of the time I’m sick the one thing I use the most is tissues. I found a four pack of Kleenex Anti-viral facial tissues at Walmart which lets your friend (or you!) be able to keep a box of tissues everywhere they might be needed- whether it’s on the nightstand or next to the couch. These Kleenex are great because the active ingredients in the middle layer of this 3-ply tissue kill 99.9% of cold and flu viruses* in the tissue within 15 minutes. As moms, the last thing we want is for our kids to get sick, too, so the added anti-viral feature of these Kleenex is helpful in reducing the spread of germs to our families.

How do you bless your friends when they are sick?

  1. That is a wonderful idea for a gift basket. I need to make a couple of these for some friends. I know some that are sick right now and could use one of these baskets.
