The holiday entertaining season is upon us which means that there are all the typical preparations that need to be done, from preparing the turkey dinner to cleaning the home for guests. Pet parents have some additional tasks on their list, like cleaning the pet hair from their couches, making sure their home does not have any bad pet odors, and securing decorations that paws may be tempted to touch.
The first thing that is a must do before entertaining is tackling the pet hair that seems to land everywhere. The couches are the biggest pet hair collectors in our home so I recommend a good lint brush and a vacuum that can tackle pet hair. You know someone is going to come over with a pair of black pants on and you don’t want them walking around with pet hair all over their bottoms after they’ve sat on your couch.
One other thing you don’t want? A smelly home! For those with cats, a good litter is essential for keeping your home smelling nice. ARM & HAMMER ™ CLUMP & SEAL ™ cat litter, found at PetSmart, is our favorite because of it’s one of a kind odor control. No other litter forms a tight seal around odor and destroys it with unique odor eliminators and baking soda, providing bacterial odor control in the litter box for up to 7 days.
The last thing pet parents need to do is figure out how they are going to keep all their beautiful holiday decorations safe from their pet’s paws. We’ve invested in some unbreakable ornaments after discovering that our cats love playing with all of the ornaments that hang on the bottom of the tree. We are also securing our tree better this year since last year we came home to the tree tipped over a couple of times.
If you are a pet parent, what things do you do to prepare your home for the holidays? I’d love to hear your tips on how you keep your home a happy place for everyone, including your fur babies, as you entertain this season.

Yes! It’s easy to forget our guests may not be as cozy with the pets as we are!! Great tips!
My mom has been adopted by two more cats. She could definitely use some new litter to get ready for the holidays. With multiple cats, it’s so important.
Having a pet does take some extra work, but they sure are worth it to see how the kids adore them.
These are great tips. I would add one more. Keeping the food away from the pets is super important. Especially chocolate treats and dogs. That’s a bad combo.
Thanks for sharing these tips. Having a pet does make holiday prep more work, but it’s so worth it.
