I recently had a chance to try out the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy (cold therapy) wraps. The packaging said they were suitable for “sprains, repetitive motion injuries, the pain associated with arthritis, minor burns, bruises, and muscle cramps”. I have a lot of pain in my hands (hopefully just from using the computer too much and not early arthritis) so I thought these would be great for that.
According to the website-
“Arctic Ease wraps and pads are an incredibly simple but effective alternative to traditional cold therapy. They absorb heat energy from the body to cool the covered area. The absorbed heat is then lost to evaporation, which allows for hours of targeted cold therapy. Arctic Ease is ready to use right out of the package — no refrigeration is necessary. And mobility isn’t limited since Arctic Ease conforms to the affected area without the need for clips or tape. Arctic Ease is reusable, odorless and environmentally friendly.”
My thoughts-
I tried one of the pads on my left hand. The pads felt wet and rubbery but left my hands dry. Once placed on my skin and pressed on my hand, my skin felt cool. I left the pad on for 20 minutes without any discomfort and was able to perform tasks without a problem (much different than if I had been using an ice pack). The pain was relieved (and still 30 minutes later as I’m typing I am without pain in my hand).
The wraps and pads are sold at popular pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS, as well as grocery store chains like Jewel-Osco and Cub Foods. The wraps retail for $11.99 and the pads are $8.99.
