The week of Thanksgiving I attended a wonderful, intimate dinner hosted by Chicagonista. We got together to enjoy each other’s company and share what we were thankful for while we enjoyed delicious food from Bella Luna. We also learned a little bit more about the book Elephant Girl and got to skype with the author of the book, Jane Devin. I had heard this was a “must read” and I’ve only started reading the book and am understanding why people are saying that. I was just going to give away a credit to Amazon for this hop but I really think everyone should  read this book so I am offering a copy of it instead.

Information from the back of the book:

Written in three distinct voices—child, teen and adult—Jane Devin takes readers on an intimate, imaginative and often harrowing life journey. Born unwanted and raised without love, the child-author invents a rich inner life to see her through years of trauma. Leaving home at 16, the teen-author struggles to find happiness and a sense of place in a world that feels confusing and unfamiliar. Then, years after stumbling into an adulthood mired in tragedy and broken dreams, the woman-author finds herself at a crossroads. The choice she ultimately makes is as stunning as it is brave.Told in unflinching and often lyrical prose, Elephant Girl goes beyond a singular life story to speak of powerful, universal truths and the ability of the human spirit to redeem itself.

From the soul of a broken child and the heart of a resilient woman comes a story about turning imagination into possibility and scars into art. – Rosie O’Donnell, Talk Show Host

  2. I want to win because I’m looking for a good book to read once I finish the one I’m currently reading on potty training ;)

  3. This sounds like an interesting book. Do you remember that movie we were all forced to watch in public school called Elephant Man? Well – I think it was one of the best required by my middle school. I think this book might affect me as an adult as that movie affected me as a kid.
